Referee tracker

True referee-level ATS (against the spread) and Over/Under records are not published anywhere Just J could independently verify for this edition — the site that used to track this (Sports Insights) no longer offers it publicly, and no other free, reliable source publishes it broken out by individual referee. Rather than estimate or invent those figures, this page includes real, sourced information: years of service, background, assignment history, and the specific team straight-up (SU) records and penalty-rate data that are publicly documented. Update this page yourself throughout the season as you track how each crew's games play out.

Referees to know

  • Carl Cheffers

26th season officiating, 18th as referee. A 2x Super Bowl referee (LI, LV) and one of the most experienced crew chiefs in the league; regularly assigned to marquee divisional and playoff games.

  • Clete Blakeman

18th season, 16th as referee. Worked Super Bowl 50 and has 16 career postseason assignments (5 Wild Card, 5 Divisional, 5 Conference Championship games plus the Super Bowl). Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is 6-5 (SU) in games Blakeman has officiated — notably his worst SU record among referees he's seen regularly, per The Athletic's Mike Sando.

  • Ron Torbert

An NFL official since 2010, promoted to referee in 2014. Worked Super Bowl LVI and Super Bowl LIX, and entered the 2026 playoffs on his 15th postseason assignment.

  • Shawn Hochuli

12th season, 8th as referee; son of longtime NFL referee Ed Hochuli. Assigned to the 2026 NFC Divisional Playoff game (Rams- Bears).

  • Shawn Smith

Named referee for Super Bowl LX (his first Super Bowl assignment) after 10 prior postseason games. His crew averaged just 13.94 penalty flags per game in 2025, one of only six crews in the NFL under 14 flags/game (per NFLPenalties.com). Over the last five seasons: Seahawks 3- 3 (SU) in his games, Patriots 4-2 (SU) — though he did not officiate a single Seattle game in 2025.

  • John Hussey

24th season, 11th as referee. Assigned to the 2026 NFC Divisional Playoff game (49ers-Seahawks).

  • Brad Allen

7th career postseason assignment as of the 2026 playoffs (Bills-Jaguars Wild Card game). His crew is generally cited as being close to league-average in total flags thrown. Mahomes is 4-4 (SU) in games Allen has officiated.

  • Alan Eck

Promoted to referee in 2023; worked his first postseason game as a referee in the 2026 playoffs (49ers-Eagles Wild Card) after two prior playoff games as an umpire. A real, sourced trend worth tracking: the Eagles are 8-1 (SU) in games where Eck has been the assigned referee.

  • Adrian Hill

16th season, 7th as referee. Worked his 6th postseason assignment in the 2026 playoffs (Packers-Bears Wild Card game).

How to use this page

  • Note the referee assigned to each week's games (published by the NFL a few days before kickoff, and by Football Zebras shortly after) and log it here alongside your own results tracking.
  • Penalty rate (flags per game) is one of the more useful, legitimately predictive crew-level signals for game flow and pace — higher-flag crews tend to produce more clock stoppages and, in turn, more plays and higher-scoring potential; lower-flag crews tend to move games along faster.
  • Team-specific SU records by referee (like Mahomes/Blakeman or Eagles/Eck above) are real but built on small sample sizes — useful as one data point among many, not a standalone signal. SITUATIONAL HANDICAPPING ANGLES
